Our Approach
"Kokoro" means "heart; mind; mentality; emotions; feelings" in Japanese. At Kokoro Art Studio, we strongly believe that art is powerful in nurturing the hearts and minds of children. In our fast-paced and high-tech society today, "productivity" and "competitiveness" became some of the key words for children at a very young age. Unfortunately, the "result-oriented" mentality we instill in children is not helping with their social-emotional growth. It is not about the end-product children come up with at the end of an art class. It is about the art process they go through in each project, in which through time, builds up their confidence, creativity, divergent thinking skill, problem-solving skill, ability to express visually and aesthetic sense.
- Respects the uniqueness and creativity of each child.
- Focuses on the creative process, aiming at bringing out the creativity and imagination of the child.
- Lots of open ended questions during the process to help children develop problem solving skills.
- Character development - fosters a child's self-confidence and sense of autonomy.
- Helps children to be more sensitive about their environment and to be more observant.
- Equips children with various art skills step-by-step, so that they have the ability to express their ideas freely.
- "Experience and Exposure" is the key for children learning art. Our program allows children to work with different art media. Both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional projects are incorporated throughout the program.
- Helps children learn to appreciate Art and nurture a sense of beauty.
